At age eight in my childhood Michigan home, my mother’s friend asked me to go into her guest room and bring her a “cotton swab.” Always eager to please I promptly jumped on the task, when upon entering the room was flummoxed by no trace of said swab. I came back, defeated and empty-handed, “I don’t see any cotton swabs, the only thing I could find were Q-tips.” Insert teaching moment, and this seemingly trivial moment began my lifelong fascination and appreciation for the art and impact of brands.
