About me

Been working for nearly a decade as a journalist and editor in online, print and radio broadcast environments.

Experience covers support and leadership roles in local and national cross-platform news organizations, but primarily in online-focused newsrooms that work closely with other platforms. Have spent seven years as a leading contributor and manager of several email newsletter products, developing a keen understanding of their strengths and how to help them succeed, using a combination of audience stewardship and a growing emphasis on data analytics and visualization tools.

Through a multidisciplinary education and work experience, I've trained in a range of media that includes online video, radio broadcasting and podcasts, photography, graphic design and publishing.

In school, I was interested in emerging technology and trends in media industries, particularly in online media, and finding new ways to utilize video, graphic and interactive content to tell news stories, educate the public and engage audiences. That's still an interest, but after years of planning content and learning about audiences, that has been coupled with using analytics and audience insights to understand how more traditional things – like how a headline is written, the platform a story is shared on and the reporting work a writer puts in – impact how a story gets seen by the audience that needs to see it most.

Extensive experience in trade and B2B publications, as well a public/non-profit media, serving the needs of large-yet-niche audiences. Areas of subject matter expertise include marketing, advertising, business, cannabis, media and technology.

Experience in training and managing everyone from full-time employees to students and volunteers.

News editor and Tech editor for the national trade outlet covering Canada's marketing and advertising industry online and in print.

- Lead on daily news stories, covering campaign launches, client wins, major personnel and staff appointments and other business changes such as mergers and restructurings. Responsible for covering any breaking news and urgent stories as they happen.
- Responsible for the daily email newsletter, packaging and sending the day's top news stories to our readers.
- Also serve as editor and manager of Marketing Tech, a weekly email newsletter covering tech and innovation, particularly as it relates to the marketing industry.
- Relaunched Marketing Tech following the acquisition of Marketing Magazine from Rogers Media by Brunico, developing the sub-brand, establishing a new network of contacts in a different industry and creating/executing the launch strategy for a new weekly email newsletter.
