Title | Ash to Art |
Brief | When the Glasgow School of Art was destroyed in a catastrophic fire, J. Walter Thompson London asked 25 artists to turn ashes from the blaze into original artworks. These were then auctioned to help pay for the school’s restoration. Each piece of ash was given a powerful meaning and context by a label identifying it as "Bookcase. Charles Rennie Mackintosh. C. 1909". These reminders of a much-loved art school touched the hearts of even the most charity-fatigued artists. |
